Freshmen year Journey
Freshmen year was full of ups and downs. I learned new things, and discovered there is a world that I never knew. I learned who I was and what I wanted to do in the future. As a Freshman I chose to join the EDGE program, a pathway program in learning. The EDGE program taught us everything that we needed to learn in high school and so much more. They let us take our passions and other things that we were interested in, and learn about them. The EDGE program helped too push me in the right direction and help me to do incredible things. Two of my biggest accomplishments this year were an award at the underclassmen night, and a publication one of my poems, and a chance to publish another one.
The underclassmen night, at Legend High School, is a night where a student from the 9th, 10th, or 11th grade can receive an award from each content area, in recognition for outstanding work that year. My freshmen year I was given an award for being the EDGE student of the year 2016-2018. I was nominated out of many students by my Spanish teacher at the time Mr. Withey. Getting this award was a big accomplishment for me at the time because that was the first year that the award for EDGE was given out and it made a huge difference in my life knowing that I was making a big impact, and I was helping to build my future.

Love and Hate
Hate leads to suffering, suffering leads to pain, Look for someone you admire, Because love falls like rain. Pain can leave you in vain, When you fly higher, Hate leads to suffering, suffering leads to pain. Because of pain you heart has a stain, I sent you to her to inquire, Because love falls like rain. This discomfort is hard to explain, I know you’re a liar, Hate leads to suffering, suffering leads to pain. My grief is hard to contain, The sky glows like a safire, Because, love falls like rain. My heart is fasten by a chain, And it burns like a fire, Hate leads to suffering, suffering leads to pain, Because, love falls like rain. |
During English in my freshmen year of high school, we really worked on writing and what we could do to make our writing better. My English teacher asked me if I would enter one of my poems into the American Library of Poetry Competition. I was able to publish one of my poems "Love and Hate" into one of there books called Imagine.

ENglish
My freshmen year of English we did many book reports. But we also worked on a lot of writing. We learned how we could write better, and what different styles of writing were out there. We really focused on expanding the way that we wrote, and trying different styles of writing. Below are files of my best work through the year.

One day we were asked...what is something that you believe in? What is something that you know could change the world even if no one else does? I chose forgiveness, because with out forgiveness our world would not be as beautiful as it and the world itself could fall apart without forgiveness. I chose to write and inform people about forgiveness because it is important that everyone knows about it and what it does for us in this world. I wrote many poems, there is also an essay, and I included a start of a book I was writing, that I felt matched the theme of the topic forgiveness.

Math
In math we did a lot of work in building different items and collecting data. We did a lot of worksheets to work on our math skills.
PVC Pipe Catapult
In math we got to make a PVC pipe catapult, and launch it, to collect data. We were given a bunch of PVC pipe and we were asked to find a design that would help us make the best catapult that could launch a tennis ball the farthest.

Fib poem
This is my Fibonacci Poem, I called it fight for a life. A Fibonacci poem is a poem you write based on syllables. It goes like this 1-1-2-3-5-8. You add the first number and the second number to get the next number, and the you repeat it. Each of those numbers is a syllable and that's how you write each line. The skills that I used in this artifact were my skills of writing poetry. My strength was definitely writing the poem, that came easy to me. My challenge was trying to make sure that I had all the lines right so that they went 1-1-2-3-5-8. Can a Fibonacci poem go on forever, not just to 8, or 21, can you go as high as you want? When writing the poem, can you go up, down, and back up? I learned how to write better as a poet but I also learned that there are other ways at writing poetry.

Fight,
Strive, Battle, For a life, A life we can't have, Unless we can learn to forgive, But how can we learn, To live in, A world, Of, Pain |
HUMANITIES
In Humanities we learned about history and Human Nature. We learned about the reasoning behind things that have and will happen on earth, and we learned how we could make a difference.
Friendship Article
We had to write an article on friendship, so are teachers asked us to create a question, gather some data, and make this article. I had asked the question "How many Best Friends do you have, and do you trust them?" I asked this question to 30 kids, I arranged the kids ages into age groups from 8-10, 11-13, and 14-16. When you looked at my data you could see that they age group of 8-10 said that 6-8 people were there best friends, but then when you looked at 14-16 you could see that there best friends ranged from 1 to 3. I believe that is because when you are at the age of 14-16 you don't really know what you want and you are trying to figure out who you are, and were you want to be headed, and that data can change over night to because you could be friends with them one day and then the next day you could be mad at each other. A quote that I had put in there was from the new era it says, "I will be upon you right, and upon your left..." that was really important to me because it helped me write this article, it made me realize that when the rest of the world walks out on you, that best friend will walk in. I talked a lot on forgiveness and how to have a best friend you trust means that you need to learn to forgive. The last thing I had put in there was talking about if you haven't found that friend yet to not worry because someday you will. It was really fun to create this article because I love to write, and this took a lot of work from my heart because friendship is an important thing and you want to be able to learn to trust them and so I wanted to find out what others thought and if they trusted there friends. When I was presenting it was lots of fun, because I got questions on how I came up with the question, and why that question is important for people to know that. I got a lot of comments from parents on this article talking about how that question is very important, and how it can change over night.

Science
In science we did a lot of labs, but we also got to do a lot of projects to learn about the science behind something that we were interested in.
Brain Book
We were given the chance freshmen year to learn about anything we wanted, (the science behind it) and create a project. I chose to learn about Brain cancer, I revolved all my projects around Brain cancer so that I could reach my full potential, in the learning. My book was made for 3rd to 6th grader so they can have more of an understanding of brain cancer. It has 12 pages, each page has important information, and each page focuses on something different.
I also made a website that goes a little into depth on my project.

Spanish
Poems
In Spanish we started out the year learning about basic Spanish, and learning about who we are as a person. We wrote a poem in Spanish, just something small. We talk a little about what we liked, using this basic Spanish that we were learning. Later in the year we also wrote another poem about ourselves, in the form of a fib poem. A fib poem is a poem that is made of syllables going in a numbered order 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21. We would talk in past tense going up the number order, and then when we went back down we would talk in future tense.
PSA
One of the last things that we did that really stuck out to me was the PSA Video that we had to create. We used a topic that we were learning about that year, something that had a problem, and we wrote out a bunch of vocabulary words. Using those words we had to create a PSA in Spanish for 90-130 seconds and we had to create this video, to teach others about it.
Tech
Laser Engraved work
We learned how to use a laser engraver in the beginning of school, something that was fun, but it was also hard because we had to program the thing we were engraving just right so it would burn the way that we want it to.
Water Filter
During the end of the first semester we built a water filter. We were given a bucket and a bunch of supplies, and we were told to figure it out, make a water filter that is better than the ones already made. We took the bucket and layered everything in multiple layers. We learned that water if filtered better when it goes through many layers, instead of just one layer of net, or charcoal, or rocks.
Projects
2 Smiles of Hope
I want to make a difference, I want to do something that will change the world. But how can I do that? 2 smiles of hope, that is how. 2 smiles of hope is a foundation that I created with my friend Emma. The foundation helps spread awareness for cancer but not just any cancer, all of them, and we will run lines to help create awareness for other cancer. We sell t-shirts to. But what do we do with that money? Some of that goes to production but it goes to cancer treatment, and we also will give it to families that can't pay for cancer.
